All the beauty and the bloodshed
“All the Beauty and the Bloodshed” shows Nan Goldin's struggle against the Sackler family, who became rich because of highly addictive painkillers.
In September 2022, 'All the beauty and the bloodshed' received the Golden Lion, the most important award at the Venice Film Festival. This film is about American photographer Nan Goldin's fight against the Sackler family, who became rich producing addictive painkillers. And who have 400,000 deaths on their conscience. That is more deaths than there have been in all the wars that the US has fought since WWII.
The Sacklers donate a lot of money to major museums around the world to boost their reputation. Leiden University has also received money from the Sacklers, for which, by the way, they apologised when it turned out that it was not such a kosher family and public opinion turned against them.
You should know that The Sacklers' wealth all began with an advertising agency that made campaigns for Pfizer, the company that made a record profit of $36.8 billion in 2021 because of coronavirus vaccines. Pfizer continues to earn a lot this year too; the company raised its expectations due to good results this year.
When they started their business in the 1950s, the Sacklers received compensation from Pfizer related to turnover. And even then, it was gigantic. Valium and librium came from Pfizer and every moody housewife needed that, according to the 3 Sackler brothers. My aunt was prescribed it when my uncle died, in the sixties, and she took the addictive substance for decades.
The Sacklers knew how to run advertising campaigns with self-founded scientific journals, where one of the Sackler brothers held sway.
By the way, none of those advertisements can be found on the internet yet, as that would cause a new wave of outrage.
By the way, anyone who thinks that the Opoid crisis is over is naive. There are still 100,000 deaths per year because of Big Pharma's blessings. Johnson and Johnson and other Big Pharma companies are still selling opioids like hotcakes. No cock crowing at it.
If you want to know more about The Sacklers, read Patrick Radden Keefe's great book, who filleted the family's mafia practices. I wrote there earlier this review about.
