A true fairy tale of farmer John and the magical earth

Long, long ago, in a far and wonderful country, two farmers lived: John and Thomas. They lived in America, a country far from here, where the fields were still wide and the sun was shining. Farmer John loved his pigs, but fate seemed to strike him every time, as his pigs fell ill every now and then. They then lay listlessly in the corners of their stables, with chills running through their little bodies. Each time, the vet had to come by to help them get back on their feet.

Sometimes the pigs recovered thanks to medication and care, but there were also times when they did not survive.
Farmer John's heart was heavy with sorrow, because he loved his smart, sweet little animals dearly.

What surprised him most, however, was that his neighbor Thomas' pigs never seemed to get sick. Farmer Thomas never had to call a vet, and his pigs were always in good health.

John didn't understand it! Didn't he take just as good care of his pigs?
They received just as much attention, the same good food, and at least as much love.
So why did his animals keep getting sick while Thomas' lives were happy and healthy? He found it very unfair!

The pigs of both farmers had the freedom to dig into the ground to their heart's content.
You should know, that was still possible then, because this story takes place a long time ago — up to a hundred years ago.

Farmer John, who was a curious and thoughtful man, began to wonder if it might be grounded.
“Would there be something special in farmer Thomas' soil?” he thought to himself.

To be sure, he decided to have the soil of his own country and Thomas' land examined.
He brought in the best scholars from all over the country, men with thick glasses and long beards, who knew everything about the Earth.

And what do you think? The scholars made a discovery that no one expected! Every day, farmer Thomas' pigs root in a very special soil, rich in rare nutrients. The earth on which his farm stood was priceless. It turned out that the soil contained millions of years old humus, infused with more than 72 minerals, 18 amino acids, 15 organic acids and 5 vitamins.
Farmer Thomas sat on a plant gold mine!

“But if this soil is so good for the pigs,” Thomas thought. “Then it must also be good for me and other people, right?”
However, there was one major problem: a person does not eat soil, of course. Surely that would be very strange! What did he have to do now?

But, as you know, Thomas was a smart farmer who didn't just sit idly by.
He thought deeply and looked for a solution. And after many days and nights of contemplation, one day he shouted loudly: “Eureka!”
He found it!

With his farmers' smarts, he had come up with a simple but brilliant plan: he would filter the soil with water! In this way, he was able to extract the active substances from the soil without anyone having to eat soil.

So said, so done. He made a drink from the minerals in the soil, and to his delight, he was as healthy as his pigs.

He shared his discovery with farmer John and many others, and soon they too were living in good health.
And so they, the pigs and many others lived happily ever after!
